I got a really small packing one from Decathlon - can't remember the name/model now as it's not here, but its done me grand. They have a shop in Belfast and an online site. Oh, and your thread title needs editing (sleeping bar...??)

Small and compact = down bag. Artificial filling can be very bulky.
Then it's down to how much down filling/ warmth you want and how deep your pockets are.
Use a Deuter 300 down bag. It's grand. If I was to buy a new one it'd be from Alpkit. Good gear.

Alpkit are good, as Planet X suggests. PHD are really (really) nice bags, and amazingly small/light, but pricey.

I've brought a Snugpak on trips to france. Rolls up in a compression sack provided and you can squeeze it down to about 19cmx15cm http://www.53degreesnorth.ie/snugpak-travelpak-1-left-hand-zip-sleeping-bag-red.html

Once you get a down bag, make sure to store it uncompressed long-term. Otherwise the lift (down's ability to "rise") will get worse.

Its absolutely fine to compress it while travelling, I use planetX* compression sack on my Cumulus :)

BTW, I can totally recommend this one as a universal 3 season bag for mild european conditions: http://sleepingbags-cumulus.eu/uk/categories/sleeping-bags/lite-line-300?gid=61&vid=6

    640g only! :)
