Classic MMA Fights Thread

I was thinking about setting a thread like this up a couple of weeks ago and when it popped into my head again just now I said I'd try to get it going as there's probably no better time with the increased traffic to the forum due to this weekends action.

This is a thread for people to post/discuss their favourite MMA fights from over the years, not just necessarily from the UFC. In an ideal world it would be great if people could post a video and a bit of a preview (without the result to avoid spoiling for those who are viewing for the first time) but I know it can be difficult to find the full fights on sites we are allowed to link to here such as YouTube, so even if you are to just post without the actually video we are all adept enough at sourcing fights at this stage. :)

I'll kick things off (not the best quality video I know so apologies) which one may be of interest given yesterdays proceedings:
    UFC 178 - Aldo v Mendes 2
After Aldo defeated Mendes to defend his featherweight title in January 2012, they met again in October 2014. This fight was originally scheduled to take place in August of that year at UFC 176, however, an Aldo neck injury resulted in that entire card being pulled. After Mendes had suffered the first loss of his career in the initial fight, he racked off 4 consecutive brutal KO victories over McKenzie, Meza, Elkins and Guida, along with a unanimous decision over Lentz and was much improved going into this fight. Aldo had strolled to decision wins over Frankie Edgar and Ricardo Lamas. What transpired when they eventually met for the 2nd time was the fight of the year.

I could be wrong, but I think there is already a thread like this.

Think we can safely say that Lawlor vs McDonald 2 deserves an immediate place in here. My god what a scrap.

i wouldn't be including that one in a classic fights list, far far better out there, if you included it just because Silva moved up and destroyed the ex LHW Champ then yeah, but was hardly a barnstormer

    Shogun Hendo 1

It's definitely a classic. Anderson Silva moving up weight to fight an established LHW (unlike James Irwin) and absolutely demolishes him in what he make look so easy that it was incredible.

Very significant fight which solidified his legacy even more.

I'm predicting Diego Sanchez' name to feature heavily in this thread.

A great scalp for Silva but it wasn't a great fight

Leonard Garcia v Korean Zombie 1 is worth the subscription fee to UFC Fight Pass alone in my opinion.

    What a war.

No Griffin v Bonnar? Magnified by the context of where UFC was at the time

    Don Frye vs Takayama
    Wanderlai Silva vs Rampage
    Frankie Edgar vs Gray Maynard

    Don Frye vs Takayama

Was going to post this just for how ridiculous it is.

If anyone hasn't seen it before, go watch it now.

Picking a legendary mma fight can be hard. Like, I don't know if I consider Leonard Garcia or Diego Sanchez contributions 'classic', loads of their fights are just backyard brawl standup types - let's both swing windmills for 15 mins. Sanchez v Melendez was great though.

Matt Hughes vs Carlos Newton from UFC 34

One of the first full events I watched (maybe on Bravo?)and this fight is what made me a big fan of the sport.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, I won't spoil the finish, but it's rarer than two flying knee knockouts in the one night.
