I have a car that has been off road for almost 2 years. If I wanted to put it back on the road will I be able to pay the back tax or is there a way of avoiding it?

Only if you transfer ownership then transfer back

If the car wasn't declared off the road then, yes you'd have to pay the back tax.

The only situation where that wouldn't apply is if someone that you sold your car to taxed it. In that case, they'd pay tax from the month of July onwards and not have any arrears to pay.

As long as it's in your name, and nobody takes ownership of the car, you'll have to pay.
