Tune in SKY channel via RF to Panasonic Viera

    Howdy,

So have replaced the upstairs tv with a smartTV (Panasonic Viera)
It seems to have an inbuilt Saorview receiver, because it tuned in the Saorview channels without any aerial connected to it!
Everything is working fine on it via the wifi, netflcks etc.
    Except Sky...

The old TV (dumb) received Sky from the HD box downstairs via the RF outlet and magic eye.
However, I cant find the sky channel on the new t.v

Do I need to manual tune it? If so, for the love of god, how?

    Thanks!
    Roger.

    This thread might be helpful.

And TVs don't have internal aerials: if the Sky box has an aerial connected to its 'aerial-in' socket, the signal will be passed to TVs connected to the RF-outs, so that would explain the Saorview channels working. Or if there's no actual aerial & you're in a strong enough signal area, it's probably just the cable working as an aerial.

    thanks Thurston.
cant explain picking up Saorview, it tuned in the channels with no aerial in the back of it.

 Did you not have the cable from the Sky box RF plugged into it when you were running the scan?

nope, had cancelled the Sky at the time, the box was even plugged out.
was setting it up for wifi and it tuned in the saorview channels!

    which kind of confused me.
    A lot.

    ffs, this sorted the problem:

I recall on some Panasonic's that you pressed the TV button (TV and AV buttons used to be paired together up near the top of the remote) to alternate between digital and analogue television.

So maybe try hitting TV (the button, not the TV itself :pac:), see if it goes to Analogue mode, then go into the menu.

Dunno if that's the same on A-series or the latest models though.

    hat tip to byte!

Good it was sorted fairly handy anyway. The Saorview signal in your house must be pretty strong too, no doubt about that.
