She'd repairs yes but be sure to detail it as rebuilding. As for machine maintenance no but new equipment like vacuum pump I think are ok.

Lads put in a sluice valve for overground slurry storage, anyway fitted it myself. Vat docket says repair to overground tank. Can the vat be reclaimed? Also fitted uv light/filter to water pump, is that reclaimable too?

Any repairs will not qualify as capital expenditure and aren't allowed as a vat reclaim item.

The uv filter will qualify just be sure to send in a few photos with the vat form or they will send it back looking for photos.

!2 week wait for payment atm, I think.

Why are they running so slow now?

I remember I sent in receipts last year or maybe the year before and they had em turned around in about 2 weeks. So quick that I was surprised anyways...

They are cracking down big time on false claims for work done. People used send in reclaims for repairs and it was paid, no questions asked.

Now you have to send in photos of the work done as well or they may send it back and keep doing that until they are satisfied the work qualifies for a vat refund.

Yeah, and internal gates and acrs and new gates and pillars hung in a field also.

My accountants are telling people to bring in photos as a matter of course now to prevent delays.

Thinking of sending a request to the revenue commissioners for couple of photos of what they are spending my income tax on before I pay them, it should result in the money staying in my account for a couple of more months anyway. Basically you can reclaim vat on repairs if they result in an improvement/upgrade on what was there originally, sometimes subjective. If you reclaim vat it is seen as capital expenditure and must be depreciated. Repairs, which the vat is not reclaimed on, go in as an expense in the year they are incurred and offset against tax year 1. It is often more beneficial to not reclaim the vat.

Lads, pulling together invoice for VAT reclaim and was wondering can you reclaim VAT on Water troughs and hyrdodare pipe and pipe fittings?

Also, on form vat58 section B asks for a description of work carried out. Do you need to fill this in for every item you are claiming vat back on or can you leave this section blank and just return the invoices where the vat is been claimed back,

Hah! Nearly had a blady row with the feckers over this. Submitted for 2 years recently. One year came back eventually with payment, no questions asked. Second year, wanted details on page 2, even though the form submitted was pretty much as the first one, with the same sundry details. Don't know why they questioned the second form. Eventually I filled in a couple of details like 'use of load of sand for mixing concrete for repair, use of load of chips for drainage' etc.

Quite sure you can claim for water troughs, fittings etc. I have.

Any fixed items can be claimed for buildings attachments bins fencing water troughs etc. as well as land reclaiming digging drainage ploughing etc.

Can vat be reclaimed on drinking troughs and hydradare servicing fields ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,527 ✭✭✭MfMan

I think so, they are permanent fixtures. Just don't mention repairs in connection with them on the form.

Can you claim vat on pigtails and polywire for fencing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 876 ✭✭✭Sugarbowl

My accountant does the forms for me but didn't want to look like a fool giving him these dockets! :-)

Presume it would go in the Land Improvement section and sub section Reclamation rather than in the Fencing or Drainage sub sections ?

I don’t think so. You can claim on timber posts and steel wire because they are a seen as a permanent fixture. Pigtails aren’t. Just like you can claim vat back on a generator that’s bolted to the ground but not if it’s on a frame for 3 point linkage. Mad I know. You’d wonder who comes up with these rules.

Yes. I let them refuse me. 2 years ago I got the VAT back on 8ft meal troughs and last year I put in for a roundfeeder.

Can you reclaim vat for purchases bought off a UK website? For instance a mains fencer... Does been imported in make a difference?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 147 ✭✭edward901

I would say probably not because you have paid the Vat on the electric fence unit to the UK government.Maybe I am wrong. If you give the Vat office a ring they will tell you.
