Hi there,
There is an issue with role permissions that is being worked on at the moment.

Now there's a strange one: L,LK/TN,TS/W,WD.

While waiting for my car to be NCT'd this morning, I saw a notice stating the below.

Before Jan 1st 2014 for Limerick, Tipperary, & Waterford the following was the situation for all vehicles registered:

    Limerick: L, & LK

    Tipperary: TN, & TS

    Waterford: W, & WD

After Jan 1st 2014 on this is now the situation:

    Limerick: L

    Tipperary: T

    Waterford: W

Yet, for vehicles previously registered outside the state prior to Jan 1st 2014, & registered in the state after Jan 1st 2014

    the original situation continues, ie:

    Limerick: L, & LK

    Tipperary: TN, & TS

    Waterford: W, & WD

Despite this all vehicles 1st registered in the state after 31st Dec 1986 which were previously registered elsewhere use the

'new' system, ie: YY-XX-1234. Surely if the above logic applied the 'old' system should be used for any pre 1987 vehicles

being registered in the state after 1st Jan 1987? We use the much lamented ZV 12345 now, or at least offer it as an

alternative to YY-XX-1234. Why isn't the 'old' system used as in ZY (Louth), ZN (Meath), etc. It's a pity the 'old' system

cannot be used for vehicles of this era.

Incidently, my vehicle passed its NCT with flying colours! There were two people ahead of me who failed based due to a

defective light, & faulty tyres. Did they even do a visual beforehand? Numsculls!

Logic doesn't exist when it comes to issuing registration marks at the Revenue.

Had pre 87 registrations been issued for cars of that era imported in 87 or later, it's likely that new formats or entirely new identifiers would have had to be introduced.

Carlow for example finished up at YIC994, sure it could have flipped to 1IC after ZIC999 but they would have been introducing a format that had never been used before.

Clare were in a bigger quandary, they finished on 107XIE but had already hit ZIE999 so they would have either been issuing duplicate registrations or introducing a brand new identifier.

That's 2 of the first 3 counties in alphabetical order that would have been in trouble. The newer format offers better to continuity and allows for consistency within years.

The T reg should never have been allowed however as the single letters were intended to denote the cities, it should have become TY.

Aye, no consistency or logic indeed! Ah well, we've eircodes to look forward to on Monday!

    Eircodes?

Shurely Shome Mishtake? It's only 2015. Naw, cannae be right.

Give it another 30 years and they might be able to administer Motor Tax in a reasonable manner.

Yeah I'd love to hear the logic behind that one. Was it someone in Tipp CoCo that made that decision or some ill-educated suit in Dept of Environment sitting in a office in Dublin that dreamed it up.

BTW I saw my first T reg car on Friday driving towards Bristol (UK) on the M4.

I've no idea when the decision was finalised but the current Minister for the Environment and Local Government is Alan Kelly from Tipperary
