At our wits end with this. The Check engine light keeps coming on and the fault code is P111B Mass or Volume Air Flow via O2 (Oxygen) Sensor Too Low (Bank 1.

MAP sensor has been changed, Pre Cat o2 sensor has been changed, smoked test everything with zero leaks, replaced fuel cap (well known issue). Light is still coming on now but will turn off if car is started 4 times in succession?!

Any ideas? I have spotted that there is an oil leak from the vacuum pump, would this cause are to escape through the damaged o-ring?

Just to note, aside from the light coming on the car is running perfect with no issues.

    Any info or help appreciated.

Did you fit a genuine MAP and o2 sensor, I would advise genuine only.

Did you have the emissions checked, if so post the readings. I would also advise to look at valve timing and that there's no restriction to the exhaust. Also look at both 02 sensor readings.

Does this engine have variable valve lift? it needs good regular serviceing with the correct oil spec. Might also be worth checking if any software updates are available for any issues.

Hi Dieselbug, thanks for the reply.

The MAP sensor isn't genuine its a Bosch one, the o2 sensor is genuine however. It does have VVT, but is very regularly serviced, I don't have the results of the emissions, but it was checked a few months ago when the fault originally occurred and it was within parameters. Originally there was also a VVT fault too but this was solved with a genuine vanos solenoid. We will definetly check out the post cat sensor and the exhaust etc. the car does only small mileage so the cat could cause issues I suppose.

Will BMW Ireland tell me if there is a software update available as its an English import?
