High Energy food for 15 minute break

    Hi all,

    Looking for break / lunch suggestions which support a physical demanding job and that can be consumed quickly ? I'm looking for energy food here.

    Ideally, plant based diet (diet as in my normal daily food consumption, NOT diet to achieve a goal) with 1 or 2 portions of fish / chicken per week. I don't have any allergies but I am trying to align to my blood type.

    affordable (wage is €9 gross per hour),
    unprocessed foods (will allow for food in tins),
    non bloating (such as pasta, spuds),
    non dangerous foods such as left over rice.
    foods that don't require heating.
    A food/portion that doesn't require non stop eating for 12 minutes.

    Thanks RHJ, I will check out that product.

    As for pasta and cheese I'm trying to find foods that the body can process with as little effort has possible. I'm trying to avoid having to do my job while at the same time my internal body having to work to break these down.

    Look up nootropics.
    They can't substitute the need for food but it can definitely keep you focused.

    I dont know what your end goal is foods that fit the cryteria will in the medium/long term not be good for you in large quantities.

    There are tons of foods that break down quickly. anything with tons of sugar fits this bill. in fact pretty much all of them break down quickly to sugar. just drink a bottle of lucozade. tons of calories but all will get broken down super quick. Thats the general profile of foods that break down quick.

    but, as they break down quick, your body has tons of raw material and needs to put it somewhere. if you are not extremely active, and i mean extremely, your body will do the easiest thing, store this raw material as fat.

    You will also be on top of the world for the hour or so its being broken down but after that theres the inevitable sugar low, making you tired, slow, lethargic and can even affect mood. The food is gone quickly and you will be hungry in an hour. This is fixed with more sugar and the cycle continues until you're nice and fat and unhealthy.



    The general aim is to get good food thats slow to break down (High GI foods). These take longer for your body to break down, providing a more stead release of energy which is just better in exactly the opposite ways to why sugar (and foods that break down quickly to sugar) is bad.

    Having food breakdown slowly while you work is actually the ideal situation. Lots of foods are high GI but some common examples are:

    oats.
    sweet potato.
    avocado.
    Green veg.
    many fibrous lower sugar fruits (apples kind of fit in here).
    meat.


    I notice you dont mention meat at all in your posts. adequate consumption of protein is also necessary for a healthy body.


    I suggest you really think what you are trying to accomplish and the effects it has on your body before progressing further with your plans for quick to process foods.

    Thanks all for the insightful feedback. I get 2 15 minute breaks in total. At the minute my lunch consists of:
    boiled baby potato, 1/2 tin of tuna, 1/2 tin of sweet corn and lettuce. With an apple every other day.
    or
    boiled baby potato, boiled sweet potato, 1/2 tin of tuna, 1/2 tin of sweet corn and lettuce.
    or
    egg noodles, 1/2 tin of tuna, 1/2 tin of sweet corn and lettuce.

    Will think about fitting in some 'blanch'ed' vegetables e.g. cabbage / broccoli / peas.
