fm104................ a sinking ship?

Between djs leaving and the persistent skipping on air has anyone else noticed that fm104 are starting to lose their appeal.

Then on the drive to work I hear Dara o Dee on. That man is like a yoyo when it comes to fm104.

I know they were number one for a long time but I think 98 will give them a very good run in the next few jnlr books.

Main problems I find is songs repeated way too often.

They constantly go on about winning jnlr for the whole year every 10 minutes.

I stopped listening to the strawberry as it seemed to me all the pranks and sketches were mostly repeats.
Found this really strange after hadn't been around for 6 months and they were replaying loads from that last time was listening to it.

Annoying competitions going on about your in the final with about a thousand others I could never understand this or the excitement off some that would be (winners) not really like......

Needs a big shake up I would say and sort all above and b much better.
Plenty of other stuff but I would be here all day and then be like how long their advertising would be along with ads every 5minutes.

Agree on the music front, there are only so many times you can churn out tripe like adele etc. Top 40 format but since when has adelle been top 40?

From an outsiders view it seem's like the place is falling apart. So many people leaving and the persistent on air problems like computer skipping or out of date promo's.

I think it is going to take a lot to turn this one around. It is as if they have their heads buried in the sand there. Shame as it was a really good strong station once upon a time.

Totally agree. It's gone downhill in the last couple of years. I've completely switched over to 98FM.

    What presenters have left?

Perhaps some changes would be a good thing!

    Who left?

The skipping is very annoying though and has been going on for some time.

I wonder would they consider taking Colm Hayes back ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,450 ✭✭✭LollipopJimmy

Colm Hayes was the Strawberry Alarmclock at the time. Jim Nugent is about as funny as a kick in the balls. Mark Noble is a good presenter but Jim's arrogance has ruined the show. Breakfast shows are meant to be funny but any skit they do now is terrible.

Loosing Adrian Kennedy was a big hit, Chris Barry isn't the draw he was years ago and he doesn't seem to realise he is just a facilitator, he talks a lot.

Turn around? They've pretty much double the reach of every like for like show on 98!? What are we turning around here exactly?

FM104 Dublin '**** music station says it all for me. Close the fecker down with a big prank, that's all it's good for.

Anyone notice that they've been playing Crossfire by Brandon Flowers every single day for the past month or so.
It's like they think that is his new song or something .

Oh and It wasn't me by Shaggy is always on.

    TXFM. that is all.

Once Adrian Kennedy left the station turned to ****. I mostly use to just listen in to the phoneshow but other parts aswell. Strawberry alarm clock isn't funny at all, the ''No repeats'' are all repeats every hour. As for the phoneshow, its pure and utter ****e, Chris Barry is a horrible presenter who constantly stutters and fumbles his words. And I noticed a few weeks ago they kept playing repeat clips and topics but would then come back Live after a break and act as if it had all just happened. I've tuned out since then. The best was the Open mic of a Sunday with Ruairi Carroll and he ha left aswell with Keith Ward form the phoneshow taking over :/ 98 all the way

a couple of presenters leaving is just 1 of those things. think i've heard the skipping just there now, the song cuts out for less then a second is that it? could be a fault with the tracks themselves? but i don't know. i don't mind chris barry all though i'd like AK back. his 98 fm show just isn't the same

Is there a hidden agenda by a few bitter people here? The OP should get his facts right before posting a thread about "sinking ships".

The simple facts in black and white are

JNLR Feb 2015: Average weekday listenership

    15-24 year old - 98fm 12%, FM104 30%, Spin 48%
    15-34 year old - 98fm 12%, FM104 30%, Spin 46%
    35+ - 98fm 9%, FM104 12%, Spin 5%

JNLR Feb 2015 Share of Listening 7am to 7pm

    15-24 year old - 98fm 10.4%, FM104 21.3%, Spin 36.3%
    15-34 year old - 98fm 10.7%, FM104 23.0%, Spin 19.5%
    35+ 98fm 4.8%, FM104 7.5% , Spin 5%

The skipping music is obviously a technical fault. I have noticed it with Today FM also. Might be a TX issue.

Odd move for Ruairi going to TV3. He's doing the News At 8 the last few weeks. Wonder will there be a show for him in TV3's Autumn schedule - or will he just stay on the news.

I agree with the assessment above, anyone suggesting that 98fm is in a stong position is off the wall, they are so far behind they are minor players these days.

However, I do believe FM104 could do with a shake up and fresh look etc etc it's been the same for so long! Consistency has been a strength for them but I think after 10-12 years its now stale.

I used to love 104 but recently it has really gone down hill. The new PD in 98 is doing great stuff (except for Dara in the afternoon) surely they will overtake 104 soon.

    Anyone know why Killian left?

Fantasy thinking. They are still a fair bit behind Spin never mind 104.

FM104 have been rinsing minor hits daily by the likes of Snow Patrol for years. Its no surprise it's sounding stale.

I switched from FM104 to 98fm when Adrian and Jeremy moved and now I love 98fm.
Decent shows throughout the day, good mix of music, good competitions, etc.
It just feels fresh and modern.
FM104 went downhill when AK and JD left. Chris Barry isn't a patch on them.

I find Adrian Kennedy and Jeremy Dixon's new phoneshow on 98fm a load rubbish compared to when they were with 104 its very mild and the get it off your chest isin't the same. As for the orginal Fm104 one its good but not as with Adrian and Jeremy. Chris is ok but I think Keith is quite good and layed back with all the madness on the air. I always thought Jeremy was a bit of fool.
