Don't think so, they don't ask for more money if you get points midway through the year - swings and roundabouts.

They will generally refund for learners in the OP's position. I say generally, as it's not guaranteed.

Thanks for the replies. Said I'd ask here first before ringing and making an idiot out of myself lol

Well you need to ring them anyway to update your details.

Ya I will. If they are willing to hand back money I'm sure they'll tell me

Still ask them, if you were say 3/4s through the term I would say they wouldn't, fact you are only a week or two in, full license drivers do get cheeper insurance, I'd expect a small refund.

You haven't got a full licence yet, just a Learner Permit and a certificate of competency. Still worth enquiring about but you might be told come back when you actually have a Driving Licence.
    PS: congrats

I got 10-15% back after passing my test. Well worth a phone call. Only needed the certificate of competency too.

I was given about €45 back (my initial cost was €1,309), about 6-7 months into the policy, when I passed.

I think it's a legal requirement, no? If a learner got quoted 1000 for a year, and a full license holder got quoted 500 for the year (both with same details), then the insurer is obliged to adjust accordingly when you pass your test? Otherwise it's discriminatory or somesuch?

(so in the above scenario, if the learner passed his test halfway through the year, he should be refunded the difference so that it works out that he got the same price as a fully licensed driver in the first place).

I could well be making that up, but I am pretty sure I was told something like that before when on the phone to Chill (my insurer at the time).

I got a 20% reduction after passing last month (my own policy, not as a named driver). At 26, I'm just outside the "high risk" age-group so that must have helped.

Dont forget administration fees. Some of the cheaper insurers will charge this and take it out of a refund.
    Always worth asking though
