    Hi guys,

Looking for big estate for camping/ dogs. Narrowed down to superb , mondeo, v70.

Will want 160 bhp min and a load of torque. Looking at a v70 D5 210 bhp w 55k on the clock and se spec 2010 €18500.

    Mondeo 2.0 tdci 163 bhp in titanium spec with 63k 2011 €16500.

    Supeb 2.0 tdi 170 bhp in I think se spec 73k 2011 € 17000.

Had an s80 2.5 2001 140 bhp before and loved the comfort. Never had any real issues. We have a fleet of tdci focus in the job and lhave had loads of problems with the engines from dead injectors to entire engine replacement!

What is the general consensus on these 3? My leaning would be towards the v70, am I just being nostalgic or are the Volvos still as good as the older units?

Any owner feed back would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

I'd go with the Superb, I would think it has the biggest cargo space by a longshot.

    I just sold a 520d Touring after 3.5 years.
177hp and 500L boot. I never found it lacking for space and had it packed to the roof-lining a bunch of times for drives to the dump, or to UK/France, where it'd do 45+ mpg all the way, fully-loaded.
happy recommend it if you want a powerful estate. the m-sport looks the biz too, albeit the suspension can be a pain if you're not on decent roads

the boot in other estates will be bigger, the superb might be 600+ L I'd say. as I said, I never found it lacking and it can take a 6.5x4 ft box from Ikea with the back seats lying completely flat.

Just checked our a comparison on parkers.co.UK and the v70 is the biggest boot by a long way.

How about an accord tourer? Would be rare in 180ps guise.

    This sort of thing

What kind of dogs do you have ? If you're going long distances you might prefer a car where they can comfortably stand up in. I'd be looking for the tallest space there, not just the biggest.

Big estate? The V70 is the daddy and all you'll ever need. We had one and the only issue was that it was just a bit too big for herself and town driving.

D5 twin turbo is no slouch either. Probably not cheap to tax, but if it's manual it shouldn't be too bad.

Stop thinking, just buy it - as long as it doesn't have the full beige interior as that is just nasty.

In terms of the V70 vs the Superb, the winner on boot size depends on whether you'll be folding the rear seats down or not. In terms of running costs, the Superb wins hands down in my experience. Skoda/VAG diagnostics and repairs are a lot cheaper and more easily accessed than Volvo. The V70 is a great car and well sorted at this stage but if something goes wrong its not as easily or cheaply sorted as the Skoda. My heart would go with the Volvo but head would go with the Superb.

2 rotties, well one and a half. so either of the three would be fine.

rear entertainment pack would be handy on foreign camping trips

that is the v70 i'll be looking at next week. I Cant seem to find a lower than 80k miles Superb. 2012 with 80k odd miles isn't too appealing to me to be honest. I'll be looking to hold on to this for at least 4 years.

    Nice. I love Rottweilers.

You ever consider an MPV sized car like a Ford Galaxy? A mate of mine in Germany used to race Huskies, he had a Pajero, then a VW Sharan for the dogs. Only vehicles he found that they could stand up in.

Couldn't bring myself to a people carrier... The estate is bad enough LOL. They aren't males and the biggest is 36kg, she isn't as large as a male so height is fine in these. We would only really need to be bringing 2 kids with us for long journeys / camping the oldest is just too cool to go camping!! urgh parents and tents!! So the extra space that the mpv would bring wouldn't really be to any advantage.

Citroen C5 estates are well worth considering , I had a loan of one lately and I was really impressed with it , 160BHP spec. it was really comfortable , huge cargo space and could shift when required.

Had Citroens before, nothing but trouble for me anyway. Wouldn't go near them.

Ended up going for the Volvo, Hopefully pick up on Friday! Its a good straight car and I heard good reviews about the dealer. Didn't like the superb dealer one bit!

Plenty of poke / space in the Volvo too so camping haulage should be a whole lot easier...
