    Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone could advise us on solid fuel stoves.

We're in the process of renovating our home and are considering installing a solid fuel stove with a back boiler. We currently have gas heating, and we're just wondering if the back-boiler stove would be more cost effective? The room is quite large, so we're looking to heat the room too, but we're not sure whether we should go with a back-boiler stove or just an insert stove.

Any and all advice would be very welcome!

    Thanks,
    K

First and foremost I'd upgrade your heating controls and boiler and include weather compensation.
    Secondly upgrade your insulation.
Then I'd think about the stove option

    Hi Dtp1979,

Thanks a million for your response.

We had a plumber in who checked out our system and he's happy that it's working effectively.

We're also looking at our insulation.

    Thanks again!

    Hi Dtp1979,

    Thanks again for your response.

I'm just wondering if you've any idea how much it costs to update the insulation in a standard house?

    Thanks a million,
    Karen

A heating system working effectively is a big difference from a heating system working efficiently.
As for insulation, I've no idea. If you post in construction then maybe somebody could help
