I'm living in an estate in Limerick I have 6 hens at the ending the garden, recently I found 2 dead with their necks bitten. Just wondering is it mink? Or what is it? Rats?

Minx. An alluring, cunning, or boldly flirtatious girl or young woman. Has unusual seductive powers such that she could commit acts that would otherwise be ...

No, doubt it's one of them.

Could be mink, stout, or pinemarten! Rats wouldn't kill them unless they were very weak or sick, and there's a small chance it may have been a cat!

What ever it was, it'll surely be back!

You need to do two things! First of all you need to block up any holes/gaps in your pen (presuming you keep your hen's in a pen). Also, lock them in at night!

Secondly, get yourself a mink cage trap, and set it as soon as possible!

Remember, both Stoat and Pinemarten are protected, so they can't be harmed!

If you don't know anything about trapping, maybe ask the local gun club to help you out!

Spelled it wrong rsolel sorry for any inconvenience caused!

I don't think it's a cat Eddie the hole they got through is very small. The hens are enclosed in a pen I lock them in at night. The hole is covered up now I will have to get a mink trap, they haven't been back now in a couple of nights strange no?

Not strange at all, it can be quite frustrating, and it may not come back at all!

Small hole in the pen sorta rules out cat!

Main thing is to get cage down tight to pen, and make sure all holes are filled and gaps, especially where gate is, are tight!

Great news! I'll go away and get a trap for one, any suggestions where to get one? And I'll see what happens.

    Are mink classed as vermin?

Mink are classed as vermin, and can be trapped all year round!

Your probably looking at a young animal, they have less fear of humans, and they are dispersing this time of year!

Try Limerick poultry for a trap.
