Tile Size

I have a hallway with a large entrance area and then corridor with rooms, bathroom etc about 1m wide and maybe 5m length. I am thinking of using 60cm x 60cnm tiles in a diagonal pattern. I think that they will look well walking in the front door and will make the place look bigger including corridor. I have read conflicting advice regarding tile size, some say larger make area bigger, and some say they make size smaller. JUst wondering if I should have any concerns about size of tile or pattern? I think diagonal pattern would work well, rather than straight, especially where I would end up with 1 large tile and a smaller cut tile. I feel that would make corridor look very narrow

If you are going to use a light cream colour porcelain, which seems to be common enough, then it wont really matter whether you go diag or straight. I think the important thing is to get a bright colour to give the appearance of a bigger area. Easier to rip a 60x60 tile straight as opposed to diagonally too. Ideally you would be cutting 10cms (approx) off each tile to ensure both tiles are of equal width. Looks cleaner.

Yeah the tile is a sort of cream marble effect. I think I prefer the diagonal pattern, just wanted to be sure that I wasn't making a mistake (expensive!).

I have also now been told that straight would be fine in corridor, with large in middle and small cut tile either side. Decsions

Of course, that will work too. Just don't take your line off the walls ;)

If your doing diamond design in the corridor feeding the bathroom/bedrooms with a 60cm tile it will be a nice bit more expensive to lay the tiles.
Some people get tired of the diamond after awhile,me included.
Its really is a matter of taste. If it was my hall i would prefer a 50cm rectified[machined to a tolerance] tile.square design,2mm grout joints,Skirting boards removed and new ones refitted after tiling.

After having bright porceline tiles I'd recommend you be sure you want them and maybe ask around. We hate them and find them impossible to keep clean but its opinion. We were told to go with a dark grout which was great advice. Brighter gets grubby and patchy looking. Personally I really like the look of diamond design.
