sewage smell in room

    Hi.

We have a problem with a sewage smell in the room closest the bathroom. We're trying to isolate the cause.I'll give the setup and whats been going on to see if you guys can shed any light.

Waste from sink and shower don't go to the septic tank, but instead go to a drain away from the house. There are no blockages in these, nor any smell from them.

The bathroom was redone in my aunts time and a new toiled installed.sewer pipe exits straight through the cavity wall and down into a manhole which was slabbed and cemented over. It gave no problems until a few months ago when the toilet started to block. I broke open the manhole and there was no blockage there.I then got the septic tank empty and the issue was resolved. Refitted the manhole cover and cemented around it. A couple of months later and the sewage smell started in the room next to the bathroom.Sometimes it comes and goes but recently has been worse. Now this room and the room next to it have wooden floors, which I believe are on joists and again recently the smell seems to have traveled to the other room that has a wooden floor. All other rooms including the bathroom are solid concrete and there is no smell in these including the bathroom. Another thing I notice is that there is no vent pipe outside. I guess it is possible that the exit pipe is cracked in the cavity and the smell is going down the cavity and getting into these two rooms via the wooden floors. Or maybe the absence of a vent pipe is to blame.

    Any ideas?

It could be all of what you say, but I'd certainly start with fitting a Vent pipe. I'd say that will be the end of your problems.

It might not be a leak, could be something simple, for example , is there water in the traps, check there is no loss of seal on any of the fittings. If not let me know
