Has anyone any recent experiences with the likes of Sto (silco)or Baumit external silicone based renders?

I've to patch a house that is already plastered and this got proposed as a happy solution. I have heard a few negatives about other renders but apparently these are a different mixture and the silicone based stuff is ideal for coastal regions. I'd especially be interested to hear about:

    • how easy to key clean
    • how long before they need to be painted
    • cracking
    • cost per square meter
    • how the hell do you decide on a colour........

Hi, Sto and Baumit ( I think Knauff also do this) they are the Germans top brands. I was working on them just a few times but I can say they are very good quality.

You can clean them by power washer.

They don't need to be painted because they are already mixed, and those colours are lifetime.

They are silicon based so they are flexible and doesn't crack.

I don't know anything about prices in Ireland, but they are quite expensive in my country so here are probably double. I know similar but cheaper ones, but I heard those ones are the best.

There is a wide range of colours, will post some pictures this evening, maybe this will help you

    Regards

What's on the house already? What do you mean by patching?

    Thanks guys for the responses.

There is plain plaster on it already - which needs to be patched around windows, new blockwork from closed up openings, etc.

Those pictures look really well, but think we have to play it safe with a white.

Its good that they can be power washed as we have a good bit of foliage around the house.
