    I didn't register with Irish water and received a bill, so where did you get my details from?

    I have zero intention of paying regardless just to inform you, like most of the country!!

    Section 26 of the Water Services Act enables Irish Water to request information from relevant persons, collated information from a number of sources to produce a customer database. Under section 26 of the Water Services Act Irish Water have compiled a customer database from various public sector sources, however as information was sought from a number of sources and merged into Irish Water's database, it is not possible to accurately state the exact source of your data. The relevant persons/ sources listed in section 26 of the Water Services Act 2013 include:

    - The Revenue Commissioners;
    - ESB;
    - PRTB (Private Residential Tenancy Board);
    - Local Government Management Agency;
    - Local Authorities and
    - An Post

    If a landlord contacts Irish Water and provides the name of their tenant, Irish Water will then write to the tenant to encourage them to register their details to ensure accurate billing. This is done to ensure that the landlord is no longer liable for water and/or wastewater charges while the property is being occupied by the tenant.

    The only personal data that Irish Water will accept from the landlord is the tenants name. The sole purpose of obtaining the tenants name is to identify the customer at the premise to which Irish Water is providing water and/or wastewater services. The provision of such names is necessary both for Irish Water to perform its statutory functions, and for Irish Water and the landlords' legitimate interests in ensuring the correct customer is identified. As such, its processing is in accordance with the Data Protection Acts.

    I hope you find the above information helpful. If you have any further queries, please don't hesitate to contact us.

    Kind regards,
    Niall

    Hi Niall,
    could you please explain to me why my bill was nearly €70 (1 person) and was unmetered? I have saved a lot of water by showering at the gym most days etc. I'm really annoyed by this and certainly it is encouraging me even further not to pay. seems the saving water is another spin from Irish Water.

    Johnny,

    I'm the same, I never registered. I cannot wait to see 'Irish Water' produce a document with my signature!!

    I also have ZERO intention of ever paying!

    If you own the property and it is connected to the water network, they don't need anything with your signature. You are automatically liable for the charges, unless of course someone else registers for that address and starts paying them. This is stated pretty clearly in the legislation.

    Is that the legislation that was Guillotined through he Dail in four hours, you speak of?   The legislation relating to the company what was set up without any minutes of meetings been taken for four months?    Only a fool would worry about that.    Its the duty of good citizens to ignore bad laws.

    In this case the hundreds of thousands of Irish citizens who marched in opposition.      The dogs on the street know what is going on with Irish Water.
