    Hi all,

i wasnt sure where to post this as i need some advice.

i was trying to launch my own company on personal funds a i ran out of money for a few month now and recently decided to seek help at the social welfare who granted me a jobseeker allowance. My weekly means are ZERO.
while being very happy i ve been granted help i would like to know if there are any other help i can ask for like for my rent, transportation and one of my main concern is my health as i had a heart incident due to stress and i really can t afford to pay a specialist...

based on my non existing revenue i have applied for a medical card but no answer so far...

i would like to say that i m seeking a maximum of help to get back on my feet until i find a job and not look like someone trying to live on benefits... (i lived 12 month with no salary at all)

    thanks for your help :)

i would like to add that i have been lucky enough to have my best mate providing me a couch to sleep on for a year now for free (i realize again how awesome it sounds to have such a friend) but now it s time to move on, and try at least to find my own room...

shall i ask the city council?

get rent allowance. could get your own small apartment, or you could move into a sharing house or something

Contact your local TD to get the medcial card hurried up. If you have a heart condition I think your a special case and they should expitite it. Usually your local TD will have a clinic each week.

If you urgently need treatment go to casualty or call 999 asap. If you tell them at the hospital that your on jobseekers and just waiting for your medical card they might send you a bill but wont deny treatment when you get your medical card you can call up the number on the bill and give them your medical card number and the bill will be removed.

thanks JJ next time i have an episode i will do that...i was so scared to call 112 or 999 for the bill coming after but now i have to be honest with myself i can t hold it anymore...you gave me precious info thanks so much

    hello all

making a bump on this thread without opening a new one.

i am now sorted with medical card.

since my weekly means are equal to zero and i have been offered a small place to sleep on at a friend of mine for almost a year now (bless him)

i would like to know if i can obtain a rent allowance to help me rent a little room as i didn t have a room for a year now ..anybody knows what conditions are needed to be granted a rent allowance? any similar story?

it is going very well on my way to recovery few things to fix and i ll be normal again... thanks in advance...

i think you have to be paying rent for six months to qualify. you could maybe say you were paying rent for that one year.

landlords hate rent allowance. they tend to say "rent allowance not acceptable." although i think a new law is coming in to prevent that.

You need to be paying rent privately for 6 months OR in need of housing. To be in need of housing you need to be on the council waiting list. So you need to go to your local council and get documents to fill in. You will need stuff such as proof of income etc so keep receipts of your jobseekers allowance. You will most likely need an address in the meantime so may need to use your friend's address. Get him to give you a letter stating you were on his couch for last year but this can no longer continue and there is not enough room in his house to house you. This should help speed up the process.

After the council have you on the list, you should be eligible for rent allowance. The hardest part is getting a landlord who will accept it. I don't know where you are living but you will find it harder to get a place in Dublin on RA than say Longford due to supply & demand issues. Rent allowance comes with a lot of paperwork to fill in for both you and the landlord along with a lot of people abusing it and leaving a landlord in near financial ruin.

    Best of luck

You will need be Renting privately for 6 months and or assessed as having a housing need by a local authority essentially your going to have to prove you were already financially able to support yourself and due to situations Beyond your control your no longer able to pay your rent .
