Should I be worried if the motertax check shows purchased by a dealer 2 weeks ago but the car is listed as a private sale and when I called he verified this is a private sale?

I bought a VW Golf from a guy who, at the time, worked in a VW dealership. The car was a trade-in to the firm, but this guy somehow had a sideline going where he valeted the cars and fixed bits and pieces and sold them on without any connection to his employer's firm. Anyway, the car was absolutely fine. I drove it for a year, sold it and made a €3k profit. God, I miss the Celtic Bubble!

It was probably traded into a dealer, who then sold it on to a "home trader" as it was either easier/cheaper than selling it from the forecourt, or it is a model that's hard to shift, or it's ready to go BANG.
Treat it as a Private Sale (no Warranty, etc) but be extra careful when checking it over.
If it's better value than any other private sales then consider buying, if not then plenty more cars out there.

It'd depend on the value of the car. If it's a cheap enough yoke where having to stand over it wouldn't make it worthwhile to a dealer, then I wouldn't sweat over it. But if it's a few thousand then I definitely wouldn't be interested.

Most franchised main dealers as a policy will not retail cars of a certain age or mileage. They usually sell them on to smaller dealers or possibly an employee buys it to sell it on privately.

Just be aware that if it is being sold privately that you are not covered by the sale of goods act.
