Replacement family car advice

Sorry if this has been asked many times before. I have a 05 Saab 93 1.9 TID which has just failed the NCT pretty badly could be expensive to fix up. It has high mileage 261km it was a company car in my work before we bought it.
So going to getting quote to get fixed but thinking might to replace it and looking advise as what to get.
Family of 4 - kids 8 and 13 so want something reasonably sized, don't do that much mileage mainly up and down m50 and around city. Want something with decent enough size, that is not kill me on tax or running cost budget around €7/8k if cheaper better. Someone I know mentioned a Quashqui? Don't know much about cars so all advice welcome.

Check the Qashqai out but they really don't have that much room as basically they are a medium sized hatchback made to look like a SUV. Better off with something like a Passat, Mondeo, etc or similar if you need a bit more space.

Bought a Mondeo, 2010. Nice roomy car, cavernous boot space, powerful milage muncher, 140bhp and 50mpg all week long, €280 tax.

Tks was looking at a mondeo but it had v high mileage 258k - ex taxi was not sure what to do but the high mileage put me off

Ended up getting a Renault Fluence Tom Tom - have to say I have been very impressed so far - probally won't win any prizes for lucks but nice to drive and brilliant Spec - Tax only €200 as well
