I received my Certificate of Competency yesterday, but my closest NDLS booking is 3 weeks away! Is it possible to get this fast-tracked?

You can just walk in without an appointment.

It's what I did. I was waiting about 45 mins to be seen.

Was there for about an hour in total, was great!

Really? According to the website it's quicker to book online?

I got mine recently - I had made a booking online but there was very limited spots available. You can drop in but it depends on how busy they are that day, and the pre-booked people will get preference.

I went to Portlaoise and the service was very prompt and professional. Its worth looking at the availability of a few different places as some are busier than others.

Portlaoise seems to be more available than Naas, might drop down there tomorrow or later today. Thanks for all feedback lads.;)

    Update

I dropped into the NDLS in Naas yesterday, I was seen to within 20 minutes, which is crazy considering the internet booking gave me a date 3 weeks away.

Apparently, they are very busy from 9am as everyone wants to get there to beat the queues. However, during the day yesterday they said they were quiet. Just a heads up for anyone that is in the same boat I was yesterday.

Anyone able to tell me how late you can go? Might try getting to it within the next hour, but they shut at 5. If I got there at 4.45 would I be seen, or would it be a case of if not seen by 5 told to leave and come back?

I got in at about 4pm and it was fine, I had to wait for about 15 minutes. But anything past 4:30 is pushing it as about 8 people came in after me. Each person takes 10 minutes and there are usually only 3 booths. Saw you passed your test there, congrats!:D

    Haha cheers, thanks a million!

Yeah I might leave it and maybe try get down about 11ish tomorrow. Hopefully it will be quiet enough. Don't really fancy leaving it until Saturday as I imagine the place is just jammed.

11 would probably be a good time, like I said earlier the lady working there said everyone comes in at 9 to 'skip the queue' but in reality they are the only crowd coming in. Walk in, don't book online.

I went to Trim last Saturday at 11 and was seen straight away with no appointment, this is the 3rd time I have been there and have never had an appointment or waited longer than 15 minutes.

Don't book, don't go first thing, don't go to one of the urban centres and you should be good

Do you have to wait another week after to get your licence in the post or will they give it to you straight away?

What do you need to bring with you?

'At present, customers can expect to receive their licence or learner permit within five to eight working days' Source: NDLS FAQ Section

You've to bring €55 for a ten year licence, your Certificate of Competency, you old Learner Permit, and proof of your PPS Number (pay slip, medical card etc.)

You will have to wait for it in the post, had to wait 7 working days for mine to arrive. NDLS have a list of things you need with you.

Can you drive by yourself with the receipt that you applied for your licence or do you have to wait for the licence to come?

Yes you can drive by yourself one you have the N plates on, You can put these on once you have the receipt but not between passing you test and getting the receipt as I found out last week when the NDLS dude said to me "you can put you N plates up now", "I've had them up all week" says I
