Replacing Rusted Bolts

Hi all, I've just brought my Trek 1500 SLR over here and am looking to replace some rusted and partially rusted bolts. Is there a standard sizing for the likes of Stem bolts and rear derailleur bolts normally? Or will I need a Bolt Gauge to get an accurate measurement? Thanks.
