    How do shopping centres get away with discriminating against people's family status by having parking spaces marked out for "Parent and Child"? The Equal Status Acts 2000–2012 says it's illegal to do discriminate on family status but every shopping centre in the country now has reserved places for people with children which discriminates against people who don't have children. Should shops be allowed discriminate for a marketing gimmick?

    Why if you can't discriminate on age are companies allowed charge depending on your age? Why do I have to pay more to enter the Zoo or the NAC than a child or pensioner?

    The Equal Status act makes this illegal yet nearly every company, and government ran/funded organisation, ignore the law. Does this not make a mockery of the law?

    Have you read the Act, if you had then a number of your assumptions would be clarified. But just dealing with one;

    (3) Treating a person who has not attained the age of 18 years less favourably or more favourably than another, whatever that other person's age, shall not be regarded as discrimination on the age ground.

    And the other issue

    (b) preferential treatment or the taking of positive measures which are bona fide intended to—

    (i) promote equality of opportunity for persons who are, in relation to other persons, disadvantaged or who have been or are likely to be unable to avail themselves of the same opportunities as those other persons, or

    (ii) cater for the special needs of persons, or a category of persons, who, because of their circumstances, may require facilities, arrangements, services or assistance not required by persons who do not have those special needs.

    My own personal view of parking spots is Wheelchair/handicap spots=sacrosanct, parent child spots = suggestion.
