Whats your usual position? Have you any experience playing as a back? One thing I will say is try and stay goal side of your man be aggressive but not dirty, when clearing a ball clear it out the wings try to avoid going down the middle, because chances are it will come straight back in on top of you. If you get ball in hand go left or right, take it out of the kill zone don't cross back across the square

    Full backline:

    (1) Clear balls out to the wings not across the goal.

    (2) Get to the ball first.

    (3) Narrow angle.Force the forward to shoot from a more difficult position.

    (4) Backs should stay behind forwards under dropping balls.Otherwise stay side by side.

    (5) To avoid being rounded or sidestepped wait. Do not lunge into a tackle.

    (6) Avoid too much ball watching. Otherwise forward will slip into a scoring position. Tight marking is essential. Backs must aim to keep opponents scoreless. The golden rule of full back play is: Pick up loose forwards.
    (7) Good communication with your goalkeeper to ensure no confusion in relation to dropping balls. Always face the puck out. Your goalkeeper may make a mess of it.

I'd say there's a few senior county hurling teams keeping a hopeful eye on this thread!

Pull when the ball is coming. Pull when the ball is there. Pull when the ball is gone.
