receipts and ''dodgy'' tradesmen

I got some dodgy work done by a tradesman which I was unhappy with but which he refuses responsibility for. He installed an outdoor tap and the tap itself was faulty. I have text records showing he did the job, agreed to do the job , acknowledged he did the job, acknowledged and agreed the tap was faulty but claimed it wasnt his responsibility for providing a defective tap.

He did not provide a receipt. Was he legally obliged to provide a receipt? How can I ramp up the pressure regarding receipts/tax implications of not providing a receipt etc to convince him to do the job he said he would do ? Is there any way ?

Does he have a business? If so then the best option is SCC

This is about a €20 tap, already discussed to the death in a duplicate thread in Consumer Issues, link below.

Thanks. Its connected with the tap yes. But if you consider how many other customers he might have done this to and will again then its not just about 20 euro. And the cost of the job was more than just the tap.
