Laptop Sluggishness issue

    Hi all,

Someone might be able to help me here.

My laptop has become very sluggish, very slow to respond at certain times, and just generally a frustrating experience at times.

Now I am not technologically-minded at all, but I had a quick sweep of the forum and couldn't find anything that might help.

    I have a Samsung model - i3 - 3310 CPU, 2.4 GHZ, 6 GB RAM, 750 GB (with about 400 GB free)

I need my laptop a lot with my work (teacher), and the often sluggishness slows it down, affecting the pace of a lesson.

Can I do anything to improve performance? I back up all my important data onto external HD, so I would have no problem if, for example, restoring the laptop to factory settings might work.

    Any advice most welcome!

Check if all your RAM is recognised (System Properties)

Also check what programs are set to start automatically (Windows key+R)then type msconfig
You might disable some entries (its reversible)

Also run Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and check memory usage

Cheers for that - I had a look, and all seems in order in those regards.

Just FYI for anyone that comes across this in the future.

Assuming you are running windows, disabling services and reducing the boot time out can be done from Windows key + R key.

from the run window that appears enter msconfig and enter. from services tab Telephony and Fax can be disabled safely, use your judgement (Google)

Cheers for that above - I disabled the two mentioned, but didn't do any more.

Having looked on Google, it's quite techy for me, and I feel erring on the side of caution on this one in case I mess up the laptop altogether.

    Laptop still quite sluggish, mind.

You could have a bucket load of bloatware or malware running on the machine.....

run hardware diags if that passes --restore it-- ends pissing about as long as you backed it up
