Every bloody time I go for a run it hits. 5km in and come rain or shine cramps start.

Sometimes I can get by but other times I have to abandon the run altogether. Some sources say it's not being hydrated enough, other say over hydrated while others say it's too much or not enough food.
    Is there any concensus?

Don't take caffeine for a couple of hours before you run (coffee. soft drinks that contain caffeine, etc). Don't eat a big meal for a least two hours before. Don't eat fruit before you run.
Do you do any of these?

Nope. Today had lunch at 1 (don't drink tea/coffee) and went to run at 6.

Sh1t happens, but it shouldn't be every run. Make a basic food diary and monitor everything you eat and drink, including alcohol for a few weeks. See if you can work out the trigger(s). It could be anything, some people are affected by dairy, egg, egg products such as egg pasta, tomatoes, other seeded fruit such as raspberries and strawberries. If you can't work it out, consider a trip to the doctor. Be prepared for the inevitable referrals onwards to specialists.

How much water did you drink leading up to that run, and what time roughly would have been your last drink of water?

Without going into too much detail can you tell us what you mean by cramps? Is it a stitch? Is it that you need to go to the toilet? Is it your actual stomach?
