    Hello!

Quick question - I think this is the right place to put it!

My brother bought me a nice watch for my birthday and we're thinking of sending it through registered post (he lives in Singapore).

Does anyone know if I'll have to pay any customs on the item when it arrives? It's worth €345 so it's not cheap, meaning the customs will be $$$'s upon arrival - if I have to pay it that is :)

Sorry if this is a simple enough question, haven't been able to find a straight forward answer online anywhere yet.

if he sends it by post it might get through
if he sends it by courier (dhl etc) it will get caught

It's the might part that worries me.

He could always put a lower value on it, but it's a bit of a risk in case the item gets lost.

I am afraid it is very likely that you will have to pay custom duty/vat on this watch. If it has been sent by courier you will get a bill. In my experience An post are picking up more and more on parcels with Duty owing over recent months.
