There's nothing like a good epic space battle and sometimes there are incredible ones seen on TV, from Star Trek, to Battlestar Galactica, to the various incarnations of Star Gate.

So which ones are your favourites?

BSG had some great scenes but its all a blur in my mind now and I cant think of specific scenes, time for a rewatch.

I remember in Space Above and Beyond there was an episode with an ace chig pilot in a new type of ship that was killing a lot of humans, they called him Baron von Chiggy, there was some great combat in that series alright.

Easily Battlestar Galactica. I was blown away by the quality of its combat scenes when I first starting watching ten years ago.

Babylon 5 had some great space battle scenes which outstripped ST:TNG at the time even though they were made on banks of Amiga 500's

    also Farscape

does the Serenity movie count seeing as it was a tv series?

Battlestar Galactica - the battle over New Caprica. Seeing BSG float away while being pounded by 4 Cylon Basestars, i actually thought they were going to destroy it for a few seconds. Que the Pegasus flying in and kicking some serious ass...for a while. Absolutely brilliant. Seeing the Raptors jump while Galactica fell through the atmosphere was the highlight.

Babylon 5 - Severed Dreams, when the Civil War really kicked off (for a while anyway). Was the first time that they really had a large scale fight, and it was awesome.

Space Above and Beyond - the elite Chig vs McQueen was brilliant.

Plenty of good Star Trek ones as well, though Sacrifice of Angels was the best of the lot.

Re-watching those Babylon 5 clips, it's kinda amazing how even though FX technology is exponentially better & easier to create than it was for B5 (even for its time the CGI wasn't great), few shows ever seem willing to even try and convey epic space battles on that level. I wonder why; clearly the makers of B5 had no fear about the limitations of their tech, so what's everyone else's excuse? It's part of the reason I find the current crop of space-SciFi on TV so infuriating to watch; all of space to play with yet nobody wants to.

Its got to be BSG "the plan" standalone film, showing cylon attack on the 12 colonies from their pov , the sheer scale of it ,
