    Hi,

I'm thinking of doing this event, hows does the jersey distribution typically work? The online registration doesn't ask for size information. Just curious!

    thanks
    Jon

At sign-in on the day last year they just handed us a ticket, walked over to the next desk, handed over the ticket and said what size jersey we wanted.
I did the 50k route then so was the last wave to head off and they still had plenty of every size jersey.

I think I might give it a go...pining over the buzz and craic at the ROK this year.

You just pick it up on the morning of the event.

No guarantee they'll have your size, they often run out of the smaller sizes at these events in my experience so try get there earlier if you really want a jersey.

There is always a great buzz at this event. It finishes outside Trim Castle. There are always food stalls music, great M.C. and great crowds.
It is one of the best organised sportives around.

How would a newbie fair at this event?

Have recently taken up cycling and am planning on doing the 50k. Are there any cut offs in time to complete?

Looks like a great event and something to aim towards.

The Meath tour is probably the flattest of all the An Post series. I really enjoyed it last time I did it.

There's no cut off time (well, there is, but you will be finished long before that no matter how slow you are).

You'll do the 50k no problem at all. :)

It's a very leisurely leisure cycle, not a race (it's always a race)

This event is perfect for newbies.
    All capabilities are catered for.
Don't worry about cut off. Last year, I completed the long route. Long after, I had finished and changed, there were still people finishing the shorter route.

Worth deciding whether you will wear the jersey and arrive accordingly or you will end up carrying the jersey around with you when you pick it up at the start

Good point, I'll probably not take the risk in case I can't get my size. I can throw it in one of my jersey pockets anyway.

Parking is in a big field just a few minutes walk from registration. When I did it we walked over and registered without the bikes and then went back to the car and got sorted before heading to the start line.

Not that long cycling but do 30-35k once a week or two. Any problems doing this 50k on a hybrid?

If your not too far from venue you can register the day beforehand and pick up jersey then. Saves time on the Sunday.

There is really only one climb on the 50K route.
    You should be grand.

You receive your jersey at sign-in and you can sign-in the night before according to their FAQ right here. Spoke with a few from Meath on the recent Ring Of Kerry Cycle actually and they were raving about the Beauty of Meath!

Staying in one of the hotels in Trim the night before, only minutes from start/finish so yey for convenience and being able to cycle from hotel!

The only negative for me is the cycle being on the Sunday. I'll finish my cycle and drive back home to Kerry to be in work Monday morning. This doesn't happen every w/end though hopefully I'll be okay in work.

First time doing a Sportive in Meath so looking forward to this :)
    Thanks,
    kerry4sam

The only issue I had when I did it (I did the 100km) was that the proper food stop was at like 75km which was pretty late. Not sure if they fixed that. There was a stop half way but it was just bananas, jellies and water.

I don't participate on any Charity or Sportive Cycles for the stops anyways so I'm grand. I'm more often than not self-sufficient on my cycles. If any stop don't have what I need at that point then I'll find a shop/café etc for what I need :)

Doesn't bother me how much/how little the volunteers provide food-wise. It's the cycling experience and memories for me.

    Thanks though,
    kerry4sam

I have done the long route for the last four years,
The food stop is great. They have a choice of two cold pasta dishes, as well as the usual sandwiches etc.
    Always really well organised.
