Dash cams: worth buying?

Several people here have suggested buying a camera for the car dashboard. Presumably the main benefit of them is to settle a dispute in the event of an accident? Do they have any other benefits?

What benefit does GPS tracking, which somebody else here recommended, add to the camera? (presumably it indicates the precise GPS coordinates of the location that the video is showing, but what else?)

Is a camera for a car dashboard worth buying? 12 votes

I have often thought that they are a double edged sword.
If you do something silly or criminal on the road and your own camera records it you should probably hit the delete button tout suite?

Yes I bought one a few months back, Nextbase 402G.
    Don't bother with cheap cameras!

It records full HD, Has voice recorder (Which I'v turned off) GPS logging, Basically when replaying a video it shows your location and it also shows your speed.

I know the speed recording puts people off, But TBH I'm always in or around the limit ish anyway so doesn't bother me.

The reason I'v got one is basically I'm a young guy (21) So people would automatically assume I was at fault in the event of accident.

Just peace of mind having it there.
