Hi I'm 17 working 3 day week paying USC PAYE (don't think I'm paying prsi) and I know absolutely nothing about tax or how to claim back, would really appreciate if someone could tell me what I'm enabled to claim back and how I proceed claiming it back. Also, if anyone could provide me with info on if I'm eligible to claim any social welfare or anything like that. Many thanks.

What you're entitled to claim is entirely based on how much you're earning. Without these figures nobody can give you any details, but you also shouldn't be putting precise details online. Use a tax calculator and see if the figures stack up

I'd imagine that if anything what has happened here is that you're still on emergency tax - in which case you need to get a Form 12A sorted ASAP. Its very unlikely you're earning enough to need to pay PAYE even if your employer made a complete balls of your credits.

You are not old enough for jobseekers so you are not eligible for any social welfare. Once you're 18 and are in a situation of being available for fulltime work there may be the ability to get 2/5ths of the basic JSA payment so €40 at that age. If you're in school/college you get zip. Means testing will apply also, so if you're living at home its fairly likely you won't get anything.

Time for some reading. Every person starting PAYE employment should know the below.
