Travel Insurance Issued with Wrong Dates for Period already elapsed

    Hi there,

This may be somewhat random. I recently purchased Travel Insurance through one of the main Irish banks.

The insurance was intended to be valid from the 1st of October 2015 -> 1st of November 2015 (one whole month) and the Holiday cancellation cover due to start from 26th of June 2015 (date of purchase).

I am now submitting an application for a visa and health insurance is required as part of that. I now notice that the dates on the policy cover me for:

Cancellation cover starts: 26th of June 2015
Travel Insurance Cover starts: 1st of June 2015 -> 1st of July 2015

I don't see how this is possible given that I purchased the insurance on the 26th of June (how can I be covered for 3 weeks before I purchased the insurance). This may have been an error on my half when submitting the documentation (though I do feel that it was thoroughly checked through).

Is the provider obliged to provide me with insurance for my actual dates now without requesting that I purchase again? After all, surely there is a responsability from their part to ensure that the covered dates are in the future as opposed to the past? If they were to refuse to reissue me a policy free of charge, would I have any counter argument/case?

    Thank you :)
