VRT Process - What I need (to do)?

    Hi All,

Sorry if this has been done to death.

I am looking for advice in relation to registering a car in Ireland.
I bought an English Reg car from a private individual in Mullingar over the weekend. I have my VRT appointment this Wed 9.15pm.

The certificate of permanent exportation says the 18th of May on it. Will this make a difference to my registration process? Does it matter that I didn't bring it into the country? The seller made up a "bill of sale" on Microsoft word to show that I bought it and we both signed it.

I have gone through what they need on the email I got. I think I have everything covered but if people could tell me what to expect or any little tips that may make the process easier I'd be much obliged.

    Thanks,

    Damien

They normally look for a date of entry that the car entered the state and may look for proof of this. Did you get the full V5 document they will need this?

You'll have to pay a penalty of 0.1% per day of the VRT amount dating back to when the car was permanently exported.

It's illegal to sell, but not to buy an unregistered vehicle, you will fill in a declaration giving the sellers details for revenue, who may or may not persue him for money owed.

The OP only bought the car at the weekend, as long as he/she has a receipt from the seller dated last weekend then he/she should not be liable for VRT penalties.

Only true if the OP has the V5c, but his post indicates he has the cert of export. In that case he's liable for penalties which he can try and pursue the seller for.

OP, if in doubt ring the VRO in Rosslare.

Thanks very much for the replies. 01% of what amount exactly? Wait and See tomorrow.

With regards the actual procedure. (starting to panic a bit now as it's all new to me)

I Have the following documents going in:

    -VRTVPD2 form
    -Declaration form
    -Certificate of permanent exportation
    -Vehicle bill of sale
-UPC & Meteor bills printed off the internet (Paperless billing so none were posted)
-P60 from Employer stamped with Logo and signed by boss
    -Passport and Driving Licence

Is there anything obvious I'm missing? I just want to get it done and dusted 1st time around

I have questions on these forms:
    -VRTVPD2 form
Is it essential I have the PPS number of "Person who purchased vehicle outside if not proposed owner?"

    -Declaration form
What does box number 10 mean? (EU Type Approval Directives/M1 Vehicles?)

How long does the procedure last?

Thanks again to everyone for the replies. Any help would be much appreciated

Don't worry about type app, or sellers pps no. you'll be seen about the appointed time, it takes about 20 mins, if the car is in the system you will pay on the spot, if not you will get a text from revenue about 4 days later to return to NCT to pay, and get your new reg. no..

Just an update on this. It went smoother than I ever imagined. Mind, the lad doing it was as nice as the day is long. Very Helpful.

All he asked me for was:
    -VRTVPD2 form
    -Declaration form
    -Certificate of permanent exportation
    -Vehicle bill of sale
    -UPC Bill
    -P60
    -Drivers Licence.

I sat down. He then did his thing on the computer. Came out. Took my Key. Went out himself. Came back in 2 mins later and handed me the key back. Another few mins on the computer and I was done. Reg plates bought up at the NCT Centre there and then.

There was no surcharge for the days it was unregistered for me as I think the Invoice I had started my 30 days again.

Now - Wait 24 hours to tax it. Then I can book NCT once its taxed and they'll give me a time within 4 weeks and away we go.

Thanks to everyone for their advice. Much appreciated

That's a cracker! They should. Don't take an offer outside that or you'll forfeit the potential of a freebie.

    Last import I did:

Online: 9 weeks was earliest test date I could get.

Phoned them, reminded them of the 4 week rule and put on "priority list". Heard nothing.

Contacted them after 5 weeks: Where's my test? A lot of messing listening back to the previous call and I'm promised one ASAP.

Offered a couple of times end up with a test 7 weeks after original booking.

Turn up at centre and they don't have it down as free. Given the choice of paying or not being tested. Paid up.

Whilst waiting phoned the customer service (more messing listening back to previous calls) and a good 2 or 3 weeks after that got my €55 cheque in the post.

    Car passed first time incidentally.
