    Spirit of Place-Spirit of Design is an international design-build education and cultural exchange curriculum that teaches students to design architecture that responds to the poetic specificity of the culture, mythology, and ecology of place. It was founded in 1993 by American Architect and Professer Travis Price from the Catholic University of Washington school of Architecture.

    In previous years Travis and his students have designed and built various project around the world and in recent years around Mayo.

    • 2004 "The Vault of Heaven and the Children of Erris" - Belmullett
    • 2005 "A Home for the Children of Lir" - Carratigue
    • 2007 "Temple of the Tides of Time – Tearmon na Taoide" - Belmullett
    • 2013 "Tale of the Tongs – The Gathering" - Innisturk Island
    • 2014 "The Crossing" – DownPatrick Head
    • 2015 "The Procession of the Souls" - Swinford

    This years project "The Procession Of The Souls" in Swinford, is a memorial dedicated to all the victims of the Great Famine from Swinford and the surrounding areas. You can follow the progress of the Swinford project on Swinford Tidy Towns website.

    There will be a public Presentation in Swinford Cultural Center on Tuesday 7th July at 7.30 where there will be plans on display.

    The official unveiling opening of the memorial will take place on Friday 10th July at 6.30 where there will be mass and a dedication led by Bishop Brendan Kelly.

    Thanks for the heads up Mick. I went to The Crossing at Downpatrick Head a few weeks ago. Was impressed with the display... loved the stories, both factual and fiction. Shame about the burger van in the carpark though!

    Will defo visit the Swinford one when completed.
