Radiator sizing (heat loss calculator) for the classic Irish hollow block built house

    Hi Folks,

I'm thinking of replacing an existing gas system boiler (Ideal Classic FF250 rated at 14.7kw ma) but I'm not sure that it and the radiators were ever sized correctly.

I've asked a local plumber and he suggested going to a 24kw system boiler and bigger rads all around based on a quick look around so I want to check this first myself.

The house (4 bed detached, UPVC double glazed) was built in 1998 and is a classic hollow block construction with internal walls lined with approx 50mm of glass fibre insulation, a plastic sheet for a vapour barrier and plasterboard/skim on top.

I'd like to calculate the radiator size for each room and use this to determine the correct size of the new boiler.

I've come across this site http://www.theradiatorshop.ie/cms.php?id_cms=8 which claims to be "designed by an Irish energy expert ".

Has anyone used this - is it accurate?

Other online calculators let you select a 220mm solid brick wall as an option for the outside wall and they seem to give similar results which suggests that the site above is fairly accurate.

If anyone has alternative suggestions to calculate radiator & boiler size then please let me know.
