Last night, while out looking at the cattle, I noticed one of them has a really bad limp on his back leg. He's slow to move, and keeps his leg straight and kind of drags it behind him.

I don't know an awful lot about cattle with sore legs. It's my brothers farm and he knows even less/has no interest.

What would you suggest doing? Does he need a vet? Is there anything we can do before calling a vet? I don't know how he hurt it.

Be no harm to call a vet if your unsure. It could be just hurt or if the foot is badly sollowen it could be foul

You need to get him in. Catch him in the crush, raise his leg and make sure there's nothing in his hoof, or is there damage to the hoof.
It's not an easy job. But unless you lift the leg and examine the hoof you won't be able to see what's causing the problem.
It's not a job for one person! Bar you know what you're at!

One here had a spot of foul last week. Hoof man came and don it for €60. Money well spent.

vet today.could have a bad infection if limping badly.if badly swollen compared to other leg would give you an indication

Update . My leg is fine , fair enough I'm a bit slow on it but I'm equally as slow on the other one so I'm not too worried at the minute. Thanks for the concern KatyMac!

Vet, I think, sounds as though a dislocation could be possible.
