US sports bar chain Tilted Kilt is planning to launch in the Irish market using a franchise model and believes there is potential here for at least four sites.

Currently with over 100 sites across the US and Canada, Tilted Kilt premises are generally between 500 and 750 sq m with average total annual revenues of US$2.2m.

Customers tend to be between 25-49 years old, with a ratio of 75:25 male to female customers, and the average spend per head is US$16.50. The food/alcohol split is 50/50.

Every site has at least 24 beers available on draught, pub food and between 30 and 40 HDTVs showing sport as well as pool tables and dart boards.

The key to the brand’s success to date is its serving team who wear Celtic themed outfits and undergo extensive training, according to Tilted Kilt president Ron Lynch.

“We aim to be the best, most respected, most recognisable, and entertaining sports pub in the world, through unrivalled service and hospitality, and after real success in the US, we’re now seeking global domination,” he said.

“We’ll provide extensive support throughout the launch process for franchisees, beginning with five weeks of training at our corporate headquarters in Tempe, Arizona.”

Was in one in the US years ago.

    Tacky as fck.

    Won't last six months here.

I wonder if they'll be serving Black and Tan's
    (Guinness and Pale Ale.)

Some weird drinks for the beer "cocktails"

Common enough in 'Oirish' pubs in American going back decades, as well as Irish Petrol Bombs.

This will be ridiculous. There's nothing worse than men thinking the woman who is trying to get him to buy drink actually cares about him. Pathetic, they'll never have what Amber and I have.

They clearly feel that Ireland and Scotland are the same place given the name and the fact that the uniform and branding is Scottish Stewart tartan. Good luck selling it as an "Irish" pub here. They'll probably also need to remove things like the Belfast Boom from their drinks menu. That said, Baileys Irish Cream & Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey dropped into a half pint of Guinness has no place on any drinks menu in the first place.

In fairness it'd probably do well in town with tourists.

I'd agree. Could see it fitting right into Temple Bar, Galway, Kilkenny, Bray...

They aren't going to get the staff they want on the wages they'll expect to get them on; that's going to be problem #1 there.

People don't tip barstaff much/anything here, even tourists, so they're not going to get many barstaff on minimum wage and definitely not going to get ones that'll wear tiny kilts and boobtubes - let alone ones they'd want to wear them.

I'd assume immigrants will go for the work, at least until they get settled and can find something better.

I must say I went to the one in Tempe a good few times. Cheesy as you would expect from a place like this, great place to watch sports though.

    They serve Irish nachos..... :D

I doubt they'd have too many immigrants working there, in terms of image, if it's meant to be a Scotrish pub, they'll want people who look typically Scotrish (red hair, freckles, white skin...)

There would also be the problem of the language barrier. Someone just off the boat from Eastern Europe or Africa wouldn't necessarily have enough of a grasp of the subtleties of the English for all the subtle flirtatious double entendres needed to work in this kind of place.

Still I'd love to see one open in Ireland just so I could watch it go tits up!

That doesn't seem to be an issue, judging from the photos in the article.

They manage to get jobs in the service area all over Ireland so I can't imagine it'll be much different in this place. Learning how to flirt for tips is easy to pick up, if anything, immigrants will find work there easier as it's not the sort of place were people are propping up the bar looking to discuss local issues or the GAA. From what I gather, all the staff have to do is dish beer out and stand there looking pretty.

Looks like something like hooters - which I always thought would do well in Dublin!

I doubt they're taking themselves as seriously as some of the posters in this thread are. They'll do well in the busy touristy spots. If you want to watch sports and there's several events on it can still be a pain in the ass to find somewhere showing it.

Definitely. Seems the company doesn't like taking things seriously at all:
    Wikipedia wrote:
In February 2012, a group of 19 former employees at a Chicago restaurant sued for sexual harassment after they claimed their manager forced them to work in a "sexually hostile, offensive, humiliating and degrading work environment." They named as defendants both the franchise they worked for and the franchisor parent, Tilted Kilt Franchise Operating LLC. The franchisor disavowed responsibility for the behavior of individual restaurants, claiming they are independently owned and operated.
    The scamps!

I thought hooters would never do well here. People would be scared of neighbours or whoever seeing them coming out of the place. I suppose slap in the middle of temple bar it could get stag parties, many who would be opposed to going to more seedy lapdancing or strip club places might go there.

The sports bit is a good twist, its the excuse to give for being there, like saying "I only read playboy for the articles" this would be the joking excuse to be in there.

As said though people do not tip bar staff here, so I expect they would have lounge girl service if they wanted to get tips.

Considering how quickly Stringfellow's Dublin enterprise fizzled out, I doubt it.

I think that's the way it's supposed to work. It's a bit like saying "I went to the McDonald's in City X, there were people serving food there!":D

Employment equality laws are going to kick them here also - while its very possible to engineer around only hiring attractive people; its rather more difficult to prove that every bloke that applied for the job was unsuitable...

Doesn't Abercrombie & Fitch have a similar recruitment policy?

And every promotional job going - my point was (and I've been corrected on it) that I thought they only hired women.
