    Hi

Thinking of returning to Ireland after 12yrs + in Australia, been great but would like to give Ireland a go before it's too late, anyway along with 12yrs of possessions thinking of bringing work ute back with me it's a 2009 landcruiser 79 series ute with the d4d 4.5 v8 engine

Same as the one pictured taken from google images but in white

    It's got arb bullbar
    Lightforce lights
    Winch
    Mud tyres
    Dual battery's
    180litre tanks

The thing is tho cars here don't loose much value so it's prob still worth easy $35-40k whilst I realise it won't be worth near that at home I also can't afford for to not to be saleable, and basically write off the whole value of it,

would there be a market for it in Ireland around the €20k mark and in the uk say for around gbp15k what you guys think it would sell for back there or would it even sell

    Thanks

Being honest, I'd say the market here wouldn't be great for one of those.
Prado 3.0 would be a lot easier to sell and a lot cheaper as well.

Can't see any market for it, sell it over there.

England is the only place you'd sell that, but for maybe 12k or so, some man in England may want a defender competitor.

You'd probably be better off selling it over there and not having to bother with export etc.
Do you even need a ute here? Maybe a large-ish car will suffice?

isn't there a rule about bull bars after 2007 cars anyway that may put a stop to you bringing it in as is ?

also while Id love it , there aren't many here who want a 4.5 V8 D4d engine in a 79 series body. If you could swap it for a land cruiser 200 series / amazon with the same engine , they hold savage value here (2008 ones go for 45k ish )

Bring back a late 70's BJ cruiser if you find one. They're highly sought after and a rust free ozzie import will make big money over here.

I think you would easily get 20k EUR/15k STG for the 79

Can't be purchased new in Europe and considered the holy grail for any overland traveler. Check out horizonsunlimited.com to get a definite idea what it would be worth in uk/Europe

I think you would be mad not to bring it back with you

Plenty of swb 79's have been converted

Cheaper option would be to build a cage for a secure storage and roof top tent

bulbar is no big deal can swap it over to the original bumper easy enough if required,

I have a full enclosed back for the ute, that I can take on and off easily, I was thinking that with the V8 Diesel engine, there would be a small niche following that would want it, and the scarcity might protect its value, I'm not expecting the same kind of money for it but obviously don't want to write off the value of it either.

You'll spend at least $4-$6K in shipping fees on top of that. I've looked into bringing my 75 series back to Ireland. Just not worth it. Mines an old 21 year old Troopy so I wouldn't lose anything as much as you on the 4.5 V8.

You'll probably be hit with the highest motor tax rate as the CO2 from the Cruisers is pretty high. MPG wise the 4.5 V8 isn't that bad compared to a 3.0 Prado or the likes.

The ute/pick up market is smaller compared to here in Aus too. Especially with a flat tray back like yours. A tub back would probably be more use to people.

I'd sell in Aus, get a better return, save a few thousand on shipping, import, VRT fees and motor tax.

You can pick up a Landcruiser Amazon with the 4.2 1HD-T engine cheap enough back in Ireland if you wanted and still have plenty of cash left over.

Thanks for the reply, the shipping cost isn't a concern as it will go in a 40ft container with pots pans, TV's fridges and all the other rubbish you gather after 12 years, so I am incurring the shipping cost either way.

the tax wont be too much of a problem as it will be registered commercial in the entity in Ireland, I considered bringing 200 series but tax was too much and to be honest prob too big and awkward.

    thanks again

I don't understand why you would import it. If it holds good value in Australia, cash out over there.

because I like it, and its unbreakable, and it'll be good for 600,000km. another 20yrs of use, but I want the option to sell it if something pops up. hope that make sense.

Ok then. Well your first post didnt mention keeping it at all. I thought you were trying to take it over here to sell.
If you intend driving it on for years to come, you shouldn't be so concerned about value here so I guess it comes down to how sure you are that you will be keeping it.

The other concern would be sourcing parts for it. The 70 series isn't sold worldwide and the 4.5 V8 is a relatively new engine so any spares might have be to shipped in from overseas by Toyota or yourself. That was another issuer I had with bringing my 1HZ motor. It's needed some work done the past year (It's got 328,000km on it….Transfer case, breathers added, wheel bearing, radiator, wiper motor, and the rear main seal is starting to weep a little bit now) so I don't know how those costs would translate in Ireland. It's easy to get the repairs done properly here with decent 4WD specialists too.
