Hi all! I can't find reputable breeders of dogs I really want. Seems like no pom or corgi breeders in Ireland with good websites or recommendations. Should I maybe think about getting pups from the UK?
If you owe a pedigree puppy, where did you get a dog? Prices on donedeal seems very low for those breeds, it is very strange.

Have you contacted the breed clubs?

I found my pup through a very reputable breed specific forum based in the UK. I had a puppy reserved in England but it fell through and I had been using the forum to research the breed. When the first one fell through I made contact with a breeder in NI through the forum that had a puppy available.

Could you share details please? I don't understand which one is reputable, to be honest...

The forum I used is only for Shelties, it's run by an assured breeder in the UK, I found a link to it on a breed club website. Your best bet is to google breed club for the relevant breed eg. 'Corgi breed club', I don't know if there are any forums for corgis or poms.

And however difficult you find the process (we waited over 12 months for out last pedigree puppy)... DO NOT get impatient and buy a dog from a backyard 'breeder' on Done Deal.

A dog is going to be around for 10-15 years. Don't rush the process. Good luck with your search.

    And remember:
An ounce of breeding is worth a tonne of feeding!

    Thank you very much!

I can't unfortunately find any breed club on poms or corgi in Ireland, it is very frustrating... However I do see pretty good dogs on donedeal for 1000 euro and more with all health checks. But not poms, unfortunately.

Knine: the problem is that I can't fins any website for those breeds clubs in Ireland. That's the problem. I do see dogs on donedeal, but poms and corgis can't cost 200, the price should be at least 700 or 1000 for a puppy.

I'll have a look for breed clubs for you a bit later on when I get to my computer, I'm on my phone now.

If you go onto the ikc website, it has most of the clubs and contacts. It's a good place to start at least.

    Pomeranian Club Of Ireland
    CONTACT PHONE EMAIL WEBSITE
    S Carroll (085-1112948)

    Welsh Corgi Club Of Ireland
    CONTACT PHONE EMAIL WEBSITE
    J O’Mahony (066-7125996) chawtoncorgis@gmail.com

They should be able to get you in contact with breeders who have litters or are planning on having litters. Also they should be able to tell you about some of the questions you should be asking about the breed. ie what specific health problems that should be tested for.

Don't buy a pup on donedeal, there is a reason they are so cheap

Cows Go µ: thank you very much! I will contact both to check for dogs. And regarding donedeal: I have seen some breeds there for 900-2000 euro. Price seems pretty much correct to the breeds, are they also pet farmers or low quality dogs or there may be responsible breeders?

I'd seriously doubt any reputable breeder would be operating on Done Deal. IF... And its a big IF... If there were reputable breeders advertising on Done Deal, they should have full IKC (Irish Kennel
club) papers, including separate lineage showing parents, grandparents and great grandparents. With show champions listed.

Hip scoring and other breed specific health tests should've been carried out.

Just because a dog is up on DD for 2 grand, doesn't mean it's not an unscrupulous person trying to mislead.

Take a fools advice... Stay away from DD. Be patient. The right dog is worth waiting for.

The question is if the 'health checks' are a once-over by the vet or if it's full checking of heart/eyes/hips/etc. of the parents. An expensive dog on DD doesn't mean it's a reputable breeder, it could equally be a puppy farmer looking to cash in on people avoiding cheap dogs is the belief that more expensive is better.

    Hi

Just wondering did you end up getting a corgi puppy?
