    Just looking at results of irish chess championship intermediate section, The winner got a full point bye in round 1 even though there were many players rated below him!.If he had asked for a bye for round 1 it should have been 1/2 point, Does anyone know circumstance surrounding this full point bye awarding ?. This clearly effected pairings & result of this competition and if not proper could effect fide rating of his competition :eek: . Having said if argument is that he is in group of those with no fide rating , should not the national rating kick in then ?. I was thinking about going to this competition despite the location but once I saw a 1242 rated player playing in what supposed to be 1500-1900 section, that put me off going . If I'm not mistaken he was organiser of irish junior championship a little while back.

    The winner got a w/o in rd 1 so gets the full point. His opponent had asked for a bye but for some reason the arbitar wasn't informed of this. With the full point the eventual winner would have had tougher games in subsequent rounds. So well done Denis a worthy Intermediate champion!

    Thanks for the reply , then it should have been reported as a walkover . Some Arbiters are clueless , Last tournament I played in, I was given a bye for an afternoon and next day round was supposed to be at 10 am, but in the afternoon organisers decide to bring forward the next morning round by one hour and announced in the venue but never thought about contacting those who had byes and were not in the venue , so next day I'm sitting having breakfast a few miles away from venue , when I get a call telling me that my clock was started 20 minutes ago and was I coming?!

    Another puzzle in the intermediate section. John mckenna was quoted on icu link " chessresults.com " was rated 1242 with fide link but in icu rating site he is rated as 1694. there are two john mckenna one in in rvh club and the other in ballinasloe . So one of the sites is rating the wrong john mckenna!.

    The winner got a walkover against someone who had requested a bye but the Arbiters were not informed of this until well after the round had started. To report this as a walk over would have defaulted the game for the player who had requested the travel bye. In order to award that player with their requested half point bye and not the default loss a 1 point bye had to be awarded to his incorrectly scheduled opponent. This in effect gave him the walkover and also gave his opponent his requested travel bye.

    @Debornie . That's fine . they could have scored it as ( + - ) , to indicate a walkover but left the name in front of " - " blank.
