    Hi,

My front car tyres are down to 3mm, condition of tyre looks fine, Should I wait till they get to 2mm or just change them now? What depth do ye normally change them at and do ye normally change back tyres onto front? Cheers

Best to change them if they have anything less than 3.0 mm, their grip in the wet is significantly impeded versus new tyres at that level. If the tyres are in good condition though it shouldn't make a difference to dry grip, but you never know when a shower will come along.

Also if you're just changing two tyres it's recommended to put them on the back axle for safety, and move the rears to the front.

I have also noticed that on the back tyres the outside tread depth is 5mm and the middle tread of tyre is 7mm and very inside tread depth of tyre is 5mm again??

I know for NCT they measure the central three quarters, so for a 200 section tyre it would be the depth across the middle 150mm of the tyre and excluding 25mm at each side. Not sure why they've worn that way though.

Under inflation will cause more wear on sides of tyres than centre.
