External HDD on Linx 10

    Hi.

    I have a linx 10 tablet running 8.1. The problem I am having is that when I plug an external hard drive in to it using an OTG cable the tablet doesn't see it. The drive light flashes and you can hear the drive spinning but nothing shows up.

    Does anyone have any ideas.

    I would imagine that the Lynx isn't providing enough power for the drive to fully power up.

    I'd second that. Go into Device Manager and see if the device is detected or has an error (exclamation mark beside the icon in Device Manager).

    Some external drive have a second port for power, either a second usb port, or a dedicated port. If it does have one, then you can just hook it up next to the tablet. Not ideal, but it'll work.

    Thanks everyone for your replies. Really appreciate it.

    I have been messing around with it all evening but am going to have to admit defeat.

    It hasn't got a second port so powers from usb.

    I think either the linx can't power it or its simply to old. Either way it doesn't work.

    Yes, older drives definitely had higher power requirements than newer ones.

    You could try connecting the drive through a powered usb hub if you have one.
