    Anyone growing either or?
Have a bit of ground here we always bale and sell.
Would be great soil on a south facing hill side.

I have 4 acres of hybrid and red clover. It is planted about two years now. No N applied except through slurry. Get about 28/bales/acre off three cuts. Sward looks ok so far however life span is supposed to be only 3-5 years.

Know a lad that grew lucerne while it grew top class silage it life span was poor also it did not like cutting in heave conditions.

I grow both. The clover will last about 3 to 4 years and is fairly robust.
Lucerne is more delicate. The most important thing with Lucerne is not to cut lower than 10cm.

Red clover with italian here, only in first year, only cut once so far.

Think teagasc had done some work on broadcasting clover seed with lime or fertilizer - every year - to extend the life of it.
But I can't remember now if it's white or red .

    That's white clover.

I had a crop of hybrid grass/red clover a while back. Great crop but would have to be grazed every 15-16 days which didn't suit at the time due to lack of roads etc.

I have often thought of growing pure red clover for baled silage and feeding in spring/autumn but haven't a clue how feasible it would be.
