Pearl earrings

I don't know if this is the correct place to post this but I brought family heirloom antique pearl earrings with screw backs to a reputable Dublin jewellers to get pierced backings instead.

After 5 weeks of waiting for them to be done (they had to order in the backs as they were large pearls) I finally received them and they were normal backings instead of click ones as I'd asked. Just relieved to have them back I paid the €40 and went off. This was about three weeks ago and now I've realised there is wear on the backings and they are not in fact gold.

any advice on what to do? Is €40 too little for gold backings? I'm almost positive I asked for gold but if €40 is way too little for gold then ok! However I feel I've been ripped off! What do you think?

    Thanks in advance
