Hi, I am going to be in a place - in Ireland - without internet access for 2 months now. What I would like to know, if anyone can help, is waht is my best option for being able to get internet access on my laptop?
I have checked with my mobile provide - E-Mobile - and they say that I have to buy a dongle for €79 and then sign up to a 6 month deal for €23.99 a month.
Does anyone know of a cheaper option please, as I will only need for about 2 months?
I need to get something straight away, but was a bit shocked to know it would cost me this much.....woudl appreciate any help, thanks!

If you have a Smart phone (eg Android), then you could just switch on Tethering on your phone. This will turn your phone into a WiFi hot-spot which you can connect your laptop to. eMobile support tethering, but it will eat into your data allowance - so make sure that you have the right allowance to cover your requirements for the 2 months. If necessary, you may need to buy an extra data add-on, but it should still work out way cheaper than a separate dongle. I would also recommend that you use an app on your phone to monitor data usage and cut it off if you are approaching the limit.

Before buying any dongle have you checked on the quality of signal in the area you are going to?

I signed up with Meteor in March (?) for their 30GB package which is, I think, €25 ish per month on a 6 month contract. I've since moved so no longer have a need for it but I'm stuck paying out the remainder of the contract til September.

If they allow for the transferral of contracts I could post you the little wifi hotspot dongle thing and you could just take over the remainder of the contract?

For that period of time you might be better off renting.
I am going to rent a travel WiFi unit for a couple of weeks for my holidays from this crowd
    https://travelwifi.ie/
I don't have first hand experience yet but I hear very good things about them.
Maybe get a price for 2 months rental.

    Dean.

Looks pricey from what little I could understand from the website.

They claim 99% population coverage ..... do wonder how it works when travelling outside of major urban areas.

    Hi everyone,
I am sorry that I didn't respond to all these great information and help offer posts - I never got any notification that they were on here!! So I just spotted them now, when looking for another message....
I am now in the same position again for the summer months, so I will check out the Eir/meteor possibility, as I am with Eir.
Any other suggestions very welcome - I will make sure that I get a notification this time - I am not very good with technology!

Meteor has a student offer at 10 euros a month, 25GB, free dongle, 6 month contract.

Do you know someone who is a student?

TBH I'd buy a cheap/2nd hand mifi device and topup a Three sim card by €20 every month you need it, most flexible and affordable.

Thanks Kori & Ed - Must find a student!!
Ed - what is a mifi device?? never heard of Such! I am not with Three, so don't see how I can do that....do you mean me to use a Three sim card in my android? I am with Eir....

Mifi devices are portable hotspot units. 3G or 4G in, wifi out. My Wifi = Mifi.

Three offer unlimited data to their PAYG phone customers so you just walk into a three store and buy a sim for €20, no contract and off you go. Then you can use it only when needed.
