Need google search entry removed

I wonder if anyone can help me with this? Recently we have noticed that a family friend has unwittingly and very unfairly been targeted by a website http://bit.ly/1RXTVMG,

When you google this persons name and location the very first search entry is to a misleading and false account of the farm subsidy payments they receive which paints a false picture as if they are receiving over €100k per year when in reality this has been the sum received over the last several years and it actually works out at less than €20k per year.

He would like to get this entry removed firstly from the google search results as it is highly defamatory, misleading and damaging to business as we have heard people using their typical snobbery to spread these lies as if this person mentioned is a very wealthy individual. It also create a large security risk for him and his family and we are afraid such a public and false representation of wealth might make him a target for burglary or criminal actions.

I myself don't know how to get this google search entry removed and he also wants it removed from that website. He is willing to employ the services of an IT guru, company or whatever it takes to get this horrible piece of false information removed from the public eye.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you.

I would remove the link you have here immediately. It will actually contribute to the site appearing higher in search results.

You can submit a form to Google to have personal results removed under the EU right to be forgotten. They may or may not accept it. They will look at it in terms of whether there is a public interest in the information as I understand it, rather than whether it is likely to be true or not.

You can also contact the site directly and/or talk to a solicitor. My understanding is that they need to be able to prove their assertions, otherwise any damaging statement can be considered defamatory. If they don't list contact details you might be able to find some on whois.org.

He needs to employ a lawyer to get it removed from the website. Although he might start by contacting the website to ask them to correct the information.

In the meantime, he can follow the advice from here: https://support.google.com/websearch/troubleshooter/3111061

And another strategy is to create other more valuable content with his name in it, that will come up first in the search results, and thus push the offending link further down them.

    That's a great strategy:
And another strategy is to create other more valuable content with his name in it, that will come up first in the search results, and thus push the offending link further down them.

Create a LinkedIn account for him; a Facebook page and profile; Twitter and Slideshare accounts; Google Plus and BrandYourself accounts - all active accounts
Also, create a blog with his name - buy a domain with his name (.com or .ie)- Is the search only in Google.ie or in Google.com as well. If it's only in .ie, that buy a .ie with his name - easier with SEO.

All those accounts should rank well in Google.

    Good luck!

BTW, if the link you're talking about is the bitly one, then you're still helping that website rank in Google:

    Checked link: http: //bit.ly/1RXTVMG

Type of redirect: 301 Moved Permanently

    Redirected to: http:/ /farmsubsidy.openspending.org/

301 Redirect is Google's friendly redirect
