Garda Harassment

Not sure of the law here so hoping someone can enlighten me.
Was outside the Czech Inn earlier, some eejit was being an a**hole with his bike on the road. An off duty Inspector turned up in his car and warned him and he ignored it so the fella phoned for support and arrested him.

He then followed up by dragging all the plastic glasses out of the people finishing their drinks and throwing it on the ground.

The arresting Inspector said you should have helped me subdue this person.
(not sure anyone is required to do this? Not that he needed help as the person was not being aggressive or anything)

Finally another Garda said to my friend and myself you will be arrested under section 8 of the public disorder act if you don't move away from the area - we were just standing there doing nothing but talking to a friend.

Bit ott, probably. Though right to stop drinking in a public place.

Harassment, ah get over yourself. If he starts phoning you at night, and stealing your jocks from the clothes line, then you can start wringing your hands.

Drinking in public is against the law as is ignoring the instructions of a Guard to move away.
Plus I don't believe a word of your story.

How do you pull a plastic glass out of a person?

Drinking in a public place is probably the worst crime it is possible to commit. It is the death knell for civilization as we know it, for shame...FOR SHAAAAAAAMMMMEEE!

And taking alcohol off people drinking in a public place and not issuing fines is the most heavy handed policing I have heard of. It is the death knell for law and order as we know it.

Drinking in plastic glasses outside of a pub is hardly a public place. If you're still in the shadow of the premises then you shouldn't be threatened with arrest. It's not like taking a bag of cans down to the canal. Gardaí just throwing their weight around again.

Is this only the first half of the tale'?? Can't see any evidence of harassment here.

I have a feeling the Op is not the full story.

Once outside the door it's a public place as is being inside the premises for that matter. The public have right of access to it so it's a public place. Shadows don't count, anywhere, that's just plain ridiculous.

Drinking on the street is an offence, no if's ands or buts.

Force people to drink more water by throwing away their beer.

Oh I agree it may be ott, but either way it is certainly not harrassment, it's being a bit officious.

You should have replied, "I'm afraid I'll have to arrest YOU for littering while in uniform" and then high-fived all the bystanders.

No shadows at night - so everyone is guilty as charged.
