Hi , I'm looking at getting a bike on the CTW scheme and visited a few stores today to try narrow down my list. Anyway found a store that seems to be giving me a few good deals on a few different bikes.

As I have up to 1,000 to claim on the scheme I will be using the lot.

Option 1: If I go for the 2015 Defy 1 then thats the 1,000 spent and I won't have anything left over for any of the accessories

Option 2: The 2014 version I can get this for 900 and have 100 euro towards accessories , meaning I won't have to back it too much, realistically I will still go over the 1,000 euro.

Option 3: 2015 Scott speedster, at 950 this was just another option .

All of the above come with the Shimanos 105

He had other bikes such as trek but I kinda narrowed it down to the above 3.

A few questions, is the 2015 Defy1 worth the extra 100 euro ???
Should I wait a bit longer till the 2016 range comes out as this should bring down the 2015 price?

Any posters who have upgraded to the 2015 version? was it worth it?

I'd expect more than a 100 euro off a 2014 model. In 2 months it'll be two models old. They'll be discounting the 2015 soon enough

Do you think it would be worth holding off so until the 2015 gets discounted?

Whichever one (if any) has the new 11 speed 105 would be my bet.

Just checked the website there and a few other sites the 2015 defy 1 should be 11 speed from my understanding and 2014 defy 1 was 10 speed if I am correct, might contact the LBS about this as if it is the 10 speed that would be the 2014 model and not the 2015 model like he was telling me.

Reason for getting 2015: It is shinier, newer, different paint job, and company will tell you it is "faster/lighter/stiffer"" blah blah blah.

Reason for getting 2014: It will be essentially the same as the 2015 with differences so tiny that unless you are a pro (unlikely) they wont make a difference.

My 2 cents: go with older model and accesorize with the money saved.

PS I have a 2010 Giant Defy 1. It is my only road bike. The last 6 months I had been set on upgrading to full carbon bike for 3-4k. However, just completed a triathlon and knocked 5 min off last years bike time. How? Was it a shinier bike? Nope, just trained more intelligently. Its not the bike, its the person and how you train.

Cheers for the responses guys, as its my 1st big purchase in the bike world I just want to make sure I get the best bike I can for the money, I am calling back to the shop Wednesday to have another chat with him.

I did ring today he confirmed that the 2015 is the 11 speed, which I would be able to get for 1000 euro v the 2014 10 speed for 900 euro.
