Has anybody here taken their test after doing lessons only?

I was just wondering if anybody here has taken the driving test or passed the driving test by doing lessons/pre-tests with an ADI only.

Currently I'm working my way through the EDT (3rd lesson next week) and it looks increasingly likely that the only chance I'll have to prepare for the test is indeed sessions with an ADI.

Just hoping to here of experiences from those who have also done this and then took the test.

Good question as I am in a similar position. 4th lesson this week and I wont be able to afford insurance at least until I have a full license.

After just the compulsory lessons, or did you get extras?

I'd say that's the exception, not the norm.
It is definitely possible to pass with only lessons from an ADI. Generally more than 12 will be required in those cases

Were you able to drive before the lessons?

    Hi,
I had a young girl pupil, passed with just eleven one hour lessons. No practice, no previous experience whatsoever. The examiner did ask her if she had any driving experience ?

I had a fair few pupils who only had lessons, no practice. Unfortunately when I retired I deleted all records so can not give an accurate average number of lessons. But I think was somewhere between 15 to 20 +

Do remember had one pupil who only passed the test on his 4th attempt. But he was inclined to make mistakes, such as wrong way down one way streets.

He either fancied her or felt sorry for her.

    Hi,

Nope, the examiners are trained to a very high standard and only mark on the actual driving. Definitely would never be influenced by any other factor. Blonde hair, big blue eyes etc etc

However she really was very pretty and had a very large mop of blonde hair, She also had a little luck. At the time, there was extensive roadworks in town - (replacing water pipes) and some junctions were single lane, controlled by men with STOP/GO signs. They would see her coming, stop the other traffic and give her the green Go, she would give them a big smile and sail straight through.

But she was basically a good little driver - just lacking experience.

I passed doing only the EDT lessons and a bunch of pre-tests with my ADI. Think overall i did about 20 hours, so it's certainly possible

in the uk (where its normal to have driving lessons - and even a test that you must pass.. ;) ) at the time I took mine (~15 years or so ago) in our peer group it was normal to pass in around 20 lessons ave - obv some people way more and some people lucky enough to get on parents insurance etc - but usual story - some peole through sheer lack of experience crash within weeks of passing some people take 4-5+ attempts with 60hours lessons etc etc

Yes I passed last week without being insured in a car, did 12 edt plus another 5. I got a great tester on the day though don't know if I would have passed if it was someone else.

I did this a long time ago, well before the compulsory training. 21 lessons over 6 months I think. Then I didnt drive a car for ages and kinda had to learn all over again.

I failed after only doing 10-11 lessons (about 10-15 years ago) and the lack of experience showed on my test. There were no grade 3 marks but I failed due to lack of progression and left turns.

If you can get experience before doing your test I'd do it

That's most likely what I'll be doing - I don't think my husband can get me on his insurance until I have a full license. Will most likely end up doing 40 ish hours of lessons by the time I get to a test.
